What is Anti-wrinkle Injections?
Botox is the trade name of the chemical Botulinum Type A. This naturally occurring chemical prevents muscles from contracting. It has been used in medical treatment for over 50 years for muscle spasm disorders such as eye squints and bladder spasms, often in much higher doses than those used in cosmetics.

How is Anti-wrinkle Injections used in cosmetic treatments?
Facial muscles cause wrinkles by creasing the skin, after decades of this the skin develops wrinkles along these crease. By injecting Anti-wrinkle Injections into the muscles this process is stopped and the skin has a smooth appearance.
When do I see the results of Anti-wrinkle Injections treatment?
The effects begin three days after treatment and can be fully appreciated in ten days. This is why we offer a ‘touch up’ review in two weeks if needed, with free extra doses.
How long do the effects of Anti-wrinkle Injections last?
On average four months. A range of three to five months.
Is there a benefit in long term Anti-wrinkle Injections treatment?
The skin is always in the process of healing itself. With long term relaxation of facial muscles the skin will reverse the creases in the skin. This can be appreciated after 18 months of treatment.
Are there side effects to Anti-wrinkle Injections therapy?
Anti-wrinkle Injections therapy is safe and in the vast majority of treatments has no side effects. Any side effects are often temporary. Occasionally a headache can occur within the first day, lasting less than a few hours and is effectively treated with Paracetamol. Rarely (in 1-2%) eye-lid drooping can occur within the first week. This is reversed in approximately two weeks with the aid of eye drops. Other side effects to be aware of are small ‘dot bruises’ at the site of injection, the chance of this is increased if you are using blood thinning medication such as Aspirin, but these usually resolve in a few days and can be concealed with make up after four hours. Any treatment which is applied to the skin with a needle has the theoretical side effect of reactivating or causing a rash. Please consult your doctor if you have a chronic skin complaint.
What size are the needles used in Anti-wrinkle Injections treatment?
They are very small. The same size as those used by diabetic patients to inject insulin up to four times a day.
Does Anti-wrinkle Injections injection hurt?
The skin is mildly numbed by local anaesthetic cream first. The injections can be described as a ‘small scratch’ of the skin.

Will the injections leave marks?
Most people find they can not even find the injection sites four hours after the treatment. There is chance of causing ‘dot bruises’ at the site of injection, but these will be small, your doctor will council you further about the chances of these.
Are there precaution I need to take before Anti-wrinkle Injections treatment?
We recommend abstaining from alcohol for one day before treatment. Alcohol does not interact with Anti-wrinkle Injections, but it does increase the chance of having small ‘dot bruises’ at the injection sites.
Are there precautions I need to take after Anti-wrinkle Injections treatment?
We also recommend abstaining from alcohol a further day after treatment.
Can I wear make-up after Anti-wrinkle Injections treatment?
You can apply make-up four hours after treatment.
Do I need to stop my regular medication?
No. Always bring a full list of your medications to discuss further at consultation with your cosmetic practitioner.
